Expo-installation subject Perm’s twin cities wartime life is open in Perm Arts Gallery from 16th October 2015 until 15th November 2015.
Disregarding what country is in state of war, it has always the same look: arms, soldiers, explosions and death… At the frontline the war wipes off any culture transforming a human into a machine aimed basically to annihilate the enemy and to survive. But behind the frontline on the civilian life islands people cling on desperately for their culture striving to preserve their traditions and creating their unique world. This common and individual’s dissonance served as a basic principle of the exhibition presenting:
- Wartime documentary photos by Russian and foreign reporters made in the countries involved in military operations (courtesy of USA Consulate in Yekaterinburg);
- Little-known in Russia wartime propaganda placards from England, France and USA;
- Individual stories of the twin cities’ residents;
- Interactive installations presenting life stories of Perm’s twin cities.
Within the working period of the exhibition in Perm Arts Gallery there’ll be excursions dedicated to the history of the twin cities’ movement, meetings with Perm residents sharing their experience of visiting twin cities and other theme events.
The grand-opening of the exhibition on 15th October was honoured by the presence of Martin Harris, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Moscow; Martin Fenner, Her Majesty’s Consul-General in Yekaterinburg; Marcus Micheli, the U.S. Consul General in Yekaterinburg, as well as a delegation led by Councilor Rae Humberstone, The Lord Mayor of Oxford, UK.
