Louisville Mayors International Gala
21.10.2015
The annual International Gala of the Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer given by Sister Cities Of Louisville, Inc. took place on 21st October at Muhammad Ali Center. Its main objective is to promote the idea of international friendship and mutual understanding. The event gathered more than 400 people including Ghana delegation paying a visit to Louisville, students participating in different educational exchange programmes in Louisville, participants of the international twin cities projects, everybody interested in the international relationship of the city. One of the brightest impressions for the Gala’s guests was produced by a cookery competition presenting national cuisines of 9 countries including some twin cities of Louisville. This competition was held for the 3rd time. The dishes were made by Sullivan University students under the guidance of Chef David H. Dodd. Open vote determined this year’s winners of the competition – Candice Boulé and John Mosley having cooked a traditional English dish – shepherd’s pie. The students had to make studies of the different national recipes and to cook 2 traditional dishes.
It’s amazing how some buffet dishes were cooked on the spot and all guests had a chance to acquire knowledge and skills for cooking different dishes. The Gala’s guests also had a possibility to buy beforehand 10$ lottery tickets provided by the organizers. Receipts are destined to finance twin cities projects.
At present, Louisville has 9 twin cities:
Montpellier, France (1956)
Quito, Ecuador (1962)
Mainz, Germany (1977)
Tamale, Ghana (1979)
Perm, Russia (1994)
La Plata, Argentina (1995)
Jiujiang, China (2004)
Leeds, Great Britain (2006)
Adapazar?, Turkey (2012)
