The results of translation contest dedicated to English writers

Within a framework of the project "Year of the English language and literature in the Russian Federation" the translation contest dedicated to English writers was held by Perm regional Gorky library.
The aim of the contest was to acquaint Perm readers with modern English literature which was not published in Russian, to draw attention to learning of a foreign language and to develop creativity among young people.
The goals of the contest:
- development of competence in the field of English language proficiency;
- encouraging creativity of students in the field of learning of native and English languages;
- motivation of students for further improvement of their knowledge and English language learning skills.
The contest was held in three nominations:
- translation of poetic text by Carol Rumens
- translation of prosaic text by Bernard MacLaverty
- translation of popular scientific text about environmental protection
Groups, which were evaluated separately, are:
- schoolchildren of middle and high school, and also first-year students
- students of linguistic faculties of 2-5 years
- students of non-linguistic faculties of 2-5 years
Definition of winners of the contest was carried out by the jury consisting of professors of the Department of English language and intercultural communication at the Faculty of modern foreign languages and literatures of PSU (Perm State University).
144 works of 122 participants took part in the contest. The winners have demonstrated not only good knowledge of English language, but also brilliant knowledge of native Russian language.
