Agrigento holds municipal elections 31 May 2015

The clearest victory in local elections in Sicily cities is secured in Agrigento.
Calogero Firreto supported by the alliance of the Democratic party, the Christian Democratic Union and the New Center-Right party was elected the Mayor of Agrigento in the first round. Seven candidates took part in the elections. Calogero Firreto won 16594 votes (59.01 percent), Sylvio Alessi was after him and won 4177 votes (14.85 percent), other candidates won 9.15 percent, 8.79 percent, 3.23 percent, 2.92 percent, 2.04 percent of the vote.
«We managed to undermine the natural attitude of Agrigento dwellers which is historically pessimistic. They think that nothing will change in Agrigento. We believe that Agrigento deserves to be loved by its residents. We’ll support people with new highly effective ideas and projects”, newly elected mayor quoted as saying.
Calogero Firreto was born in Agrigento on September 4 1965. He has an economic degree. Since 2006 served as a mayor in Porto Empedocle, the small town not far from Agrigento. There he won 94 percent of the vote.
Since 2012 he has been Councillor of the Sicily region. Married, his wife is a lawyer. The couple has two kids, 5-year old son Fulvio and 3-year old daughter Maria Luce.
