About City

Amnéville is a part of the Moselle department of France, the Lorraine region. The town is also known as Amnéville-les-Thermes. The area of Amnéville is 10,46 sq.km.  As of 2010, the population of the town is 10,100.

During World War II Amnéville was occupied by German forces and was renamed to Stahlheim. Occupants opened one of extermination camps there. Ethnic Poles, Czechs, Romanians, Luxembourgers and Belgians were transferred there from all the France territory.

Amnéville well known by its thermal springs is located in the vicinity of Metz, the capital of the Lorraine region, near the German-Luxembourg border. The Moselle River running nearby has been creating the beautiful landscape for ages.

Now, among achievements of Amnéville are smart tourism and industrial development policies, modern branding of the town. The town attracts over 5 million tourists every year.

Places of interest: The remains of Roman road and Roman bridge, 14-th century Castle and Church, the Zoo (founded in 1986), Spacious concert hall “Galaxy” (built in 1990, holds from 800 to 12000 of spectators).

In 2010-2011 Amnéville hosted a season of the World Poker Tour.

First contacts between Amnéville and Perm occurred in the1990s on the wave of interest to Russia during the “Perestroika” period.

The protocol of the town twinning act between Perm and Amnéville was signed by the Mayor of Amnéville Jean Kiffer and the Head of Perm city administration Vladimir Fil on 17.02.1992 during the visit of the official delegation of Perm to Amnéville.

During 1992 – 1999, Perm and Lorraine (including Metz) actively exchanged artists, musical bands and sport teams.

Within the twinning between Perm and Amnéville, a number of projects are currently being held in education, culture and sports.
